Being There: Taller Destinations
Changing perspective is easy when locations change
as well. There's nothing like a little distance to instill a new
lease on life.

Tall Accommodation
The Hotel Monaco, a boutique hotelier with properties nationwide
has customized a number of guestrooms to accommodate taller travelers.
The
tall rooms include extra-long beds (90 inches), high ceilings
and raised showerheads that make staying with them more like being
at home. They are also adding higher bed frames, longer bathrobes,
raised vanities and toilets too.
So far the rooms are only available in Chicago,
Denver, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City, but the company plans to
roll them out in additional properties around the country soon.
For up to date information on additional cities, check the Hotel
Monaco Tall Room Page on their Web Site.

Kalani Resort
Located on the "Big Island" of Hawaii, The
Kalani Oceanside Eco-Resort serves as a lush and tropical
refuge for guests seeking nature, rejuvenation and relaxation. John
Penisten told Digitalcity.com,
"This ocean side retreat and conference facility offers individual
travelers basic lodging and optional meal service. Choose from private
bath cottages with ocean vistas, rooms in cedar lodges, triple dorm
rooms or orchard campsites. The facility has acres of botanical
and fruit orchards and landscaped lawns. Amenities include an Olympic-size
swimming pool, two Jacuzzis, sauna, massage/wellness gazebo, recreational
sports courts and covered meeting/activity hall space for groups.
There are shared kitchen facilities and both shared/private bath
facilities. Located about 35 miles south of Hilo, past Pahoa town
on the coast highway/beach road."
Feedback from a Height Site visitor:
"My wife and I went to the Kalani Resort in Hawaii last year and
it was the best holiday we've had since our honeymoon. I'm 6ft5
and she's a little over 6 feet so we can definately attest to their
superior treatment of tall people! The massages were excellent and
a great way to relax after hiking around the lava rocks and lush
National Park nearby. We stayed in the Lodge this time but they
have a great camping area that may entice us to return this year!"

The Netherlands
As mentioned in our Tallest? section, The Netherlands is thought
to be the tallest nation on the planet. (At least this
article makes those claims) Best known for tulips, windmills
and liberal drug laws, The Netherlands is a great destination for
taller travelers who certainly won't feel out of place walking down
quaint Dutch straats and grachts, streets and canals, of
the centrum district. A bonus for monolingual British and American
tourists, 95% of the Dutch population under 50 years of age speaks
English.
West Africa
Richard Just got back from a great adventure trip through West Africa
and wanted to recommend it to other Height Site visitors. He went
through Benin, Togo, and Ghana. He told us
there is great site-seeing and incredibly friendly people.
He also recommends the trip because of all of the
tall people he saw there. He said that one souvenir hawker in Togo
must have been around 7 feet tall or possibly over (since his French
is limited he could not ask him his height). But Richard told us
that Height Site visitors should feel right at home among so many
tall people.
