Tall Not Big Fashion
Tall, thin guys have to do more than other men
to build a wardrobe that fits and flatters. Shopping isn't always
an easy thing for guys to do, The Height Site is here to help.
Tall & Thin Guys Left Out
Most manufacturers catering to extended sizes start their size range
with LT or XLT so tall thin guys may find themselves swimming in
wider baggy shirts and sagging pants just to get the length they
need.
Take A New Approach
You don't have to hide a thin frame in frumpy clothes. You can loose
the baggy clothes that make you look thinner than you really are.
Here are a few tips to get you started:
Work with a personal shopping assistant.
If you don't know much about fashion, a personal shopping assistant
is a great way to learn. Most of the better department stores
have them now and you're under no obligation to purchase anything
they select for you. Best of all most are totally free. It's probably
best to start with a store like Nordstrom
because they carry tall sized items and they don't charge extra
for them if you find something you like.
Get tailored items for work.
Blazers, dress shirts, and slacks can all be tailored to fit
you better. A crisp white dress shirt paired with some well fitting
jeans can still be a great look if your office isn't dressy enough
for ties and blazers.
Check your pants.
Avoid looking like a bean pole in plain-front trousers by
swapping them for a pair with pleats. If you can't pull off a
pleated look, make sure your plain-front trousers flare at the
bottom. A boot-cut leg will add a subtle curve without making
you look like a hippie.
Buy seasonal items to wear year-round.
Manufactuerers target particular styles for specific seasons,
but you can still pull them off all year long if you stick to
the basics.
> IN SPRING AND SUMMER look for slim fit polo shirts. Ralph
Lauren always offers trim versions of their classic polo shirts.
If they're too pricey for you, wait until their end-of-season
sale and stock up.
> IN AUTUMN AND WINTER look for tapered T-shirts made for layering.
When the weather turns cold, many people add extra layers to keep
warm. Layering will help fill out your upper body in the cooler
months. In the warmer months, you will have T-shirts to wear on
their own that look like they were made for you instead of someone
two sizes up.
Buy large and take it in.
Many dry cleaners and laundry mats have someone who can do
alterations. Find a seamstress or a tailor you can trust and you'll
be able to buy those wider-sized items and still look great.
